Springfield Gardens

Springfield Gardens is a predominantly residential neighborhood located in the borough of Queens. The neighborhood demographics in Springfield Gardens are 2.7% White, 91.5% Black, 4.4% Hispanic, 0.6% Asian, and 1.3% other. This neighborhood has majority African and Caribbeans which includes many immigrants who are also known for being very big on education. The common income in this community is about $56,000 which makes this a middle class income community.

P.S. 251 Queens is located at 144-51 Arthur St, Springfield Gardens, NY 11413 in Springfield Gardens, New York.​P.S.251 is a small elementary school and shares a campus with two other middle schools, in which some graduating students filter intoThe motto for P.S. 251, is “Learner’s Today, Leaders Tomorrow” which is embodied throughout their mission statement, vision and focus statement. The mission for PS 251 is to promote student engagement by collaboratively designing comprehensive units of study, and lesson plans that provide rigorous tasks and activities to suit our diverse set of learners.

Birch Family Services

Birch Family Services is located at 145-02 Farmers Blvd Springfield Gardens, NY 11434. This program supports many members of the community from ages 4-21 from many different aspects such as educational programs that coincide with the DOE to help students of all ages with the curriculum also ranging to support students with disabilities. Birch Family Services also provides job skills, employment services, recreational programs and resources to support low income families. This program is one great asset to the Springfield Gardens community that helps to close many educational and occupational gaps not only in this community but also in America as whole.

Springfield Gardens Campus

Springfield Gardens Campus is located at 143–10 Springfield Boulevard Springfield Gardens, New York, 11413. Originally opened as Springfield Gardens High School in 1965, by the late 1970’s the school was well known and persecuted for their poor test scores and high dropout rate. In 2007 the school was closed and rebuilt as a complex made up of four school and renamed as Springfield Gardens Educational Campus. The schools are named Preparatory Academy for Writers, Queens Preparatory Academy, Excelsior Preparatory High School, and George Washington Carver High School for the Sciences. Excelsior Preparatory High School and George Washington Carver High School are preparatory schools that emphasize on science preparing students for college by  partnering with Queens College for a internship and programs that earn them college credits. Queens Preparatory Academy and the Preparatory Academy for Writers has humanities, journalism, and performing arts programs.

Springfield Park

Springfield park is located at 149 Av, Springfield Bl, 145 Rd, 184 St. It consists of 23.54 acres, with a large Springfield Lake in the center.This park is named after the surrounding neighborhood of Springfield Gardens which was originally known as “Spring Fields” because of its system of natural ponds and creeks. These resources proved attractive to Dutch settlers, who first arrived in the 1640’s. Springfield park hosts free concerts showcasing well known artists in order to uplift and entertain their community and is a nice place to see ducks and swans, play tennis, handball, basketball or workout. There is also a large children’s play area with sprinklers and swings for summer and spring fun.
